With the ability to immerse and amaze, lighting is a key part of many Brisbane Festival events.
Lightscape
This globally renowned, multisensory phenomenon of light, colour and sound showcases Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens in a new light, with breathtaking installations created by acclaimed local and international artists. This one-of-a-kind experience will immerse audience in an inspiring, after-dark journey along a 1.8km trail through the iconic City Botanic gardens. Wander beneath towering tree canopies illuminated in colour, stroll beneath larger-than-life flowers, alongside shining neon roots, and through dynamic glowing tunnels.
Flow
Flow is a site-specific immersive installation that beckons the audience to explore the depths of shared human emotion through the metaphorical lens of water. The interactive artwork uses projection-mapped generative animation, electronic modular sound and a custom audiovisual sensory system to invite participation. Immerse yourself in a feeling of complete absorption and energised focus.
Meet Your Maker
A one-woman tour de force performance that traverses live music, video, and monologue forms. Set in the fictional universe of Queen’s City this story re-imagines a world where Indigenous communities were given their land back. In another time, we get to see what might happen if we had gone down a different path, if Indigenous pop culture was the norm and not the token.
Skylore — The Rainbow Serpent
Skylore — The Rainbow Serpent is a larger-than-life highlight of Brisbane Festival and a bright and bold celebration of our city, celebrating culture and place. Join us at ANZ Festival Garden in South Bank or at Queen's Wharf as 400 drones dazzle over Brisbane’s iconic skyline with a spectacular storytelling of The Rainbow Serpent.
Spectrum of Happiness at Portside Wharf
Spectrum of Happiness is an interactive swing that invite people of all genders and generations to experience shared moments of happiness together. By swaying on the swings, people activate the movement of the LED ball over their heads, and also create a collaborative music together where their communal joy brightens above the sky.
ChronoHARP
Unlike its inspiration, which is designed to be played by a single person, ChronoHARP invites participation, reacting to human movement by casting vibrant animation through its woven structure. As the audience interacts with the work the light will transform from a white prism to a colourful spectacle, culminating with a light and sound show when at full capacity.
