Private View
Presented by Brisbane Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse and CPL — Choice, Passion, Life
4 Rooms, 4 Diverse Experiences
Most people are sexual beings, with sexual thoughts, attitudes, feelings, desires, and romantic fantasies. Having a physical or intellectual disability doesn’t change your sexuality and your desire to express it. Yet, the subject of people with intellectual disability having romantic dreams and sexual desires is still taboo.
Private View invites audiences to become voyeurs; to observe people in their domestic spaces and discover their romantic dreams and hidden desires.
Haunting melodies from Carla Lippis are deeply intertwined within the work and serve as the heartbeat of each scene, underscoring the dancers’ stories and intensifying their emotional resonance.
Private View breaks down societal myths and misinformation and sets the viewer on a path to twist their preconceived attitudes around sexuality and disability. The production is an intimate exploration of unspoken stories and secret longing from Australia’s leading creator of dance theatre by dancers with and without disability.

Restless Dance Theatre
Restless Dance Theatre is Australia’s leading creator of dance theatre by dancers with and without disability. Our artistic voice is loud, strong and original. Restless brings artists with diverse minds, bodies and imaginations together to create contemporary dance theatre from everyday lived experiences; manifested into beautiful art, embedding inclusion into our screens, on our stages and in unexpected places. Restless Dance Theatre is a place where diversity is celebrated, and all artists thrive creatively.
Carla Lippis
Carla Lippis is a live grenade with lungs, who has recently returned home after four years in London’s West End, where she worked as the principal singer at the historic Cafe de Paris, and as the host of notorious nightclub The Box. Her international touring has included concerts with Calexico, Kiss, Mötley Crüe and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. She performed in the venerated circus La Soiree. Her variety show Midnight Marauders guested at Edinburgh Festival’s Club Cumming.
