Powerhouse Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse

A magnificent power station of the 1920s reborn as Queensland’s home of contemporary art and culture located along the Brisbane River (Maiwar) on Yagara Country.

With over 1,250 performances and events each year, Brisbane Powerhouse offers a program of festivals, visual arts, music, theatre, comedy, dance, film, in-conversation and digital arts.

#Getting There

Public Transport

The New Farm Ferry Terminal is located approximately 200 metres from Brisbane Powerhouse, with services every 30 minutes until midnight.

The 195 and 196 bus services stop at the end of Brunswick Street at Oxlade Drive, on the East side of New Farm Park. The 199 bus stops at Merthyr Road and Hawthorne Street. Both stops are a short walk away from Brisbane Powerhouse.

Parking

If you’re planning on driving, there are 148 paid parks, including six designated accessible parking spaces for permit holders. If you have a dinner or performance reservation, we encourage you to arrive 40-50 minutes early to give yourself time to find a park.

Venue Access

There is approximately 200m over concrete to the lift and then another 200m or so to the front door. A lift operates from the Stores Building (car park level) to the Powerhouse Plaza where the main entrance to the Brisbane Powerhouse is located. For patrons who require assistance travelling from the car park to theatres, Brisbane Powerhouse can make arrangements to accommodate your needs with 24 hours advance notice. A wheelchair can also be made available on request whilst the patron is visiting Brisbane Powerhouse.

Our floor is a mottled black and red regupol soft vinyl. There are some areas of our theatres that require access via stairs but all venues have bookable accessible seating. All levels of the building can be reached by lift.c

Parking

There are six accessible parking bays in the Brisbane Powerhouse carpark (Lamington Street entrance), 65 metres from the main entrance to Brisbane Powerhouse. Restrictions apply. There is a lift and stairs from the carpark

Drop Off

The drop off and pick up zone is by the Lamington Street Roundabout.

Accessible Seating

Either the front row of the venue or on the ends of rows depending on size of patron device. All spaces in the building required for artist or patron access are accessible by lift. Please notify the Brisbane Powerhouse Box Office of your requirements at the time of booking, a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

Accessible Toilets

Ambulant toilets are located in the Male and Female bathrooms on Ground Floor and Level one. We have accessible bathrooms on Ground, Level one and Level two. All accessible bathrooms are also equipped with change tables.

Low counter height

Box office/Desk has Accessible side is 760mm high, standard counter height is 1210. Bars onsite do not have lowered serving area.

Assistive listening

We have an Sennheiser Hearing Loop system installed in the Powerhouse Theatre only, any individual can request from Box Office a device which will work with any hearing assistance devices that are Telecoil etc, alternatively they can plug in headphones via a 3.5mm jack.

The only limitation with this system relates to where the patron is sitting, we generally need to ensure that they are sitting in the first couple of rows for optimum results. Please notify the Brisbane Powerhouse Box Office at the time of booking should you require a Hearing Loop. The Brisbane Powerhouse hearing loop has an earpiece that sits over your ear and may be used without a hearing aid.

Ear plugs

Ear plugs can be requested from the front of house team either staffing the theatre or from the desk.

Food and drink

No food is allowed in theatres however medical sustenance is allowed. Drinks are allowed in our theatre spaces though sometimes they are required to be in plastic containers.

Companion Card

Companion cards are accepted for events at Brisbane Powerhouse unless otherwise stated.

Please advise that you will be using a companion card at the time of booking. Companion cards must be presented when collecting the tickets. Please notify the Brisbane Powerhouse Box Office of your requirements at the time of booking, a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
