Breathing new life into storytelling.

Celebrated group Yirinda featuring revered Butchulla songman Fred Leone alongside musical polymath Samuel James Pankhurst premiere Wurgu, or 'East Wind' in Butchulla, a new commission specifically for University of Queensland’s iconic Mayne Hall pipe organ. 

Situated in the University of Queensland Art Museum, this towering instrument is a dramatic stage for Yirinda’s unique blend of contemporary orchestration with the ancient ceaseless language storytelling and culture of the Butchulla nation. 

Wurgu is an exclusive one-day-only performance that will breathe new life into this historic instrument.

Join us at the UQ Art Museum before the performance for refreshments and an exclusive viewing of exhibitions Hoda Afshar: A Curve is a Broken LineDusk of Nations and Vibrant Matter.

First Performance (Seated Only): 

  • 4.00pm: UQ Art Museum opens - exhibition viewing & refreshments available in Foyer
  • 5.00pm: First Performance commences
  • 6.00pm: First Performance conclude, UQ Art Museum closes

Second Performance (Seated + Standing): 

  • 6.30pm: UQ Art Museum opens - exhibition viewing & refreshments available in Foyer
  • 7.30pm: Second Performance commences
  • 8.30pm: Second Performance conclude, UQ Art Museum closes
